(Northern Norway /Gjesvaer video) - Gjesvaer - video itinerary - 14 -
This video, the fourth of the series dedicated to the region of Finnmark, allows you to discover the beautiful scenery that Mother Nature gives us the idyllic village of Gjesvær. Our adventure takes place in early August when the midnight sun was brief sunsets and the time released a few rain squall. The village is served from Gjesvær Honninsvåg which is only 34 km, but it is also easy to reach by car, motorcycle and caravan. In our experience this is an ideal place for a relaxing vacation where nature, tradition, hospitality and curiosity combine perfectly. We do not want to unveil the secrets of the whole adventure, but we tell you that if you're curious at least two places worth visiting: the old church with a collection of unique pieces and the bird sanctuary of Gjesvaerstappan.
The best time is from May to mid August, with the sun shining all day boreal and you can hike at any time. Enjoy the video.

SAMI - Traditions & Joiks - video itinerary - 15 -
Scattered in northern Norway, Sweden, Finland and the Kola Peninsula in Russia, the Sami or Lapps are known as one of the few indigenous peoples who manage to survive their habits, traditions and customs despite the political and social restrictions. After the conquest of their territories in the early 17th century with the usual forced Christianization good part of their traditions were destroyed, drums and other ceremonial objects were confiscated and considered dangerous for the most part burned. Where I could not weapons, the rest of the destruction they did new diseases such as smallpox, identified with their ancient evil spirit Stalo, who wipe out entire camps. In the centuries, were increasingly pushed up into less hospitable land and confined in their movements even so, the ancient transhumance in current place within national borders of each country where they live.
In this video, we have deliberately left the original voice of the respondents so as to constitute a continuum with songs sung. Sami tradition every child at birth and at different stages of life receive the gift of tunes called "Joik" that distinguish it.
Other "Joiks" are composed for different occasions of daily life.
In the video we chose three Sami male voices from northern Norway: Mikkel - Nils Somby - Johan Eira.
These people can also meet you in the period between June and August as usual along the proposed route. We thank the Norwegian Office of the Tourism.
